Are you an insured business and do you guarantee your work?

I have no public liability insurance for computer support and music teaching so teach in the student's home or online. I work with the customer to end a job if they are not completely satisfied.

I was moonlighting as a Web designer while working for publisher and found I could live off it so I started out on my own.

I built an online auction site for a Western Sydney customer and the first time someone logged on and added an ad for a fridge he said he nearly fell over! He did not realize the power of the internet!

I have some long term customers over many years who have become friends. I have developed many skills much quicker than if I’d worked under a boss. I have been to USA and met many interesting IT and library professionals. I have taught music students using my skills and seen major growth in them personally.

What skills do you have? Where do you service? What are your qualifications? Have you done this particular task before? When did you start working for yourself? Are there any hidden charges?

How much? So many hundred dollars. How long? 1 day to a month. What other features do I offer? IT, music, publishing. Can I visit onsite? If they are near Caboolture, I say I can be there in a day or up to a week if interstate. Can I work and teach customer online? Yes via Zoom, Skype or Facebook Messenger.

I am older and have had many years in business so know how to keep the job on target and solve problems that arise in the job using a self-made project management system.

I am quicker, more economical, more creative,  can visit onsite if necessary, have 3 skills - librarianship, computer science and music - to draw on, I have 20 year's experience in IT.

Quantities of pages or books or computers to fix or work on. Location of job. Time in business to see if customer is going to be a costly one to service. Public relations with customer in other sectors like music to build rapport. Whether they reply or take calls or not.

1) Write a good specification. 2) Have an hour consultation with me to sort out agenda and requirements. 3) Stay on track by not adding more features and delaying the project by feature creep.

What makes your pricing competitive?

I am based in Caboolture so have 20% lower overheads compared to Brisbane. I can work remotely via the internet or mobile connection so save on transport and accommodation and can be much more responsive than someone having to visit onsite.

How do you normally charge for your service?

My price is by project total fixed cost. This stops feature creep. Any modifications are done on an hourly rate. I can give a ballpark quote to see if people can afford me or not or to see whether it is viable. I am usually under $1000 per job.

I specialise in designing and setting up wireless MESH networks for rural or outer metropolitan areas to improve speed of internet when they can't get ADSL. I do indexing, editing, cataloguing, publishing and library consulting. I teach violin and piano lessons online, record folk music online and setup and record multimedia which helps me network better and find new business in other cities. I also specialise in open source software like Linux and languages like PHP, Perl and Python. I specialise in writing mobile and Web apps using open data from Queensland and other governments for transport and water quality and am developing a falls app for elderly.

I have a Bachelor of Science in computer science and chemistry, a Graduate Diploma in Information Management-Librarianship, a Certificate IV in Small Business Enterprise, Robotics courses and a MicroMaster in Supply Chain Management.
