1.  Make sure they are licensed and insured.  Check with Fair Trading before signing any contracts.  2. Make sure you are comparing "apples to apples" on the quotes.  Some builders unfortunately leave out critical elements to show a lower cost or timeframe.  Either they're not doing the job properly or you will pay above the contracted amount.  Ask why something is in one quote and not in another.  3. Can you provide your qualifications and references--then check them!

Most builders will quote the scope of work at around the same price.  At times, the architect's plans simply cost more than a homeowners budget, no matter who is quoting.  We are able to provide Value Management principals in partnership with your team to reduce costs yet still deliver your needs.
