Are you an insured business and do you guarantee your work?

I am insured for public liability and I do guarantee my work in terms of re-shooting, but it is not covered by insurance.

How did you decide to get into your line of work?

I have no idea, apart from the fact my father and uncle were into photography and I held a camera and took my first photo of the dog and the rubbish bin when I was 9 years old.

Do you have a favourite customer story you would like to share?

I was shooting a Bollywood star with the Premier of Victoria. They were about to raise the Indian flag when I moved to change position to get a shot of them hoisting the flag. I tripped and fell flat on my face, swearing as I did. Everything stopped till they picked me up! Funny now, but not then!

I love almost everything about the job, but I find marketing myself a little daunting some days, especially on social media platforms with so many alternatives.

Running a business, there must be a process for success. I am an efficient and effective manager of time and systems. I ensure the back-end of my business functions smoothly and work is expedited to a high standard. After over 2 decades, my track record speaks for itself.

Why should a customer hire you over another service provider?

I have commercial photography experience and have worked for some of Australia's largest corporations and government. I have been published in most known magazines. I get the job done right the first time, on budget, on time and to brief.

What are the typical things that you need to know before you can provide a quote to a customer?

I need to know the type of job, what is entailed, where the job is (or at my studio), do I need to provide talent, props or other things and timing (i.e. how long do I have to turn the job around).

How can a customer save money before you start the work? Please give 3 tips

1) A full brief is important - what does the client envisage, does the client have any examples and any ideas? 2) Have the items ready if products. Ensure they are pristine and the correct item. 3) Come to me or have a location not too far out of town!

This depends on clients and what the assignment is in terms of complication and time it will take. For shorter jobs, I'm more than happy to talk about a lower rate for volume.

What makes your pricing competitive?

I am industry standard for someone of my experience and equipment, which also includes my own studio. I am also able to tailor my pricing to the client's budget.

How do you normally charge for your service?

Accepted Answer

Minimum $200/job or $1200 per day. These can vary depending on project and how long I've known the client. Contract work is good, but for workflow I am prepared to accept a lower fee.

Is there a particular aspect of your trade or industry that you specialise in?

Fashion and commercial. I do portraits well either as situational (i.e. work environment) or studio. I work fast and ensure the subject is at ease. As someone used to government launches and events, I do those in my sleep!

I was trained overseas as well as at RMIT in photography. I have taught photography (Dip Visual Art) and lighting and with over 25 years experience, I am well placed to tackle most assignments with ease.
