Are you an insured business and do you guarantee your work?

Accepted Answer

JCG holds the following Insurance and we Guarantee our works: -  Works and Public Liability $10M -  Workers Compensation $50M -  Professional Indemnity Insurance (when designed through JCG architects "Projecture") $1M -  Residential Indemnity Insurance (project specific indemnity insurance taken out for each project)

How did you decide to get into your line of work?

I have worked as an Architect and Project Manager throughout Australia and Europe.  I have managed some of Australia's largest construction projects and over the past 18 years I realised I love the personal aspect of design and building houses for clients.  I love being hands on and being on site.

Do you have a favourite customer story you would like to share?

Accepted Answer

We delivered a large project in Dalkeith and several weeks after we finished the works, during a major storm in 2016 the new area flooded.  This was not due to our works and was an existing house defect.  We fixed the problem for the client immediately and helped the client.

What do you like most about your job?

I love the ability to translate a design / idea into a built form.  I also love delivering a project which will be enjoyed by my clients, and their children, family and pets...... Through a fun, creative and collaborative working relationship with my clients we ensure the build process is enjoyable.

What questions should a customer ask to hire the right service professional?

Accepted Answer

1.  Customers should always compare "like-with-like" quotations.  JCG prices works in detail, confirming all inclusions.  Other builders may only issue a price and a vague scope of service.  To select a builder prices offered must be based on the same scope for each builder. 2.  Check insurances.

What questions do customers commonly ask and how would you answer them?

1.  What is the approximate cost per sqm = we often provide current pricing data based on "typical" sqm rates as listed by Rawlinsons Construction Cost Data as well as compared to recently completed project sqm rates.  This is qualified on the basis that each project is unique.

What makes you the most reliable and trustworthy person for the job?

JCG is a registered and fully insured builder.  We are a member of the Master Builders (MBA) and we utilise MBA construction contracts for all projects, thereby protecting all parties through a suitable works contract.

Why should a customer hire you over another service provider?

Accepted Answer

JCG offers an in-house architect and builder service.  We only undertake 5 projects at any given time ensuring that clients obtain a personalised service.  Our owner and director who is both a registered architect and builder personally manages each project.

What are the typical things that you need to know before you can provide a quote to a customer?

1.  Scope of works (with as much information as possible); 2.  Timeframe for works to commence and construction timeframe; 3.  We would need to look at the site to understand site works.

How can a customer save money before you start the work? Please give 3 tips

Accepted Answer

Tip 1:  Collate a scrap book of images and ideas on what they wish to achieve to improve design efficiency; Tip 2:  Obtain existing property feature survey (this can also be managed by JCG if required); Tip 3:  Obtain drawings of existing house from the Shire.

What makes your pricing competitive?

Accepted Answer

We maintain a low company overhead and the directors and owners work within the business.  We have a proven and experienced subcontractors and suppliers who have delivered multiple projects for JCG.  We implement innovative construction materials and processes (where the design suits).

How do you normally charge for your service?

Accepted Answer

We offer the following project contract options:  1.  Fixed Lump Sum (FLS) Contracts; 2.  Cost Plus an agreed margin; or 3.  Open Book (showing clients all project costs for materials and trades) and charged at a Cost Plus.

Is there a particular aspect of your trade or industry that you specialise in?

We offer either construction only (where clients have their own Architect or design) and we can offer a full project delivery option where we manage the design, council approvals and construction.  We deliver residential projects both new and refurbishment/additions.

What experience, skills, qualifications or training do you have to make you the right person for the job?

JCG Managing Director is a Registered Builder, Registered Architect and holds Diploma in Construction, Ba Architecture and Ba Environmental Design.    Our other director, Cleo Pochee holds a degree in Interior Architecture (London).
