I recently was doing some work for a lady who I had done work for several times before and she ask me if I could build a mouse house for her in the garden as when she was a little girl she had one , she gave me a ruff sketch of what she was after and showed me an old stump in the garden , I said I will call you up when I'm done when I was finished I called hr up , as she was getting closer she had a look of disbelief on her face I naturally though it not what she wanted then tears and a kiss and hugs , best felling ever!

I like the fact that you can start with nothing and end up a finished product that is to me something that I can be proud of and most of all to have a satisfied and happy customer keep me wanting to do my job.

First question are you qualified in respective trade if quoting on a job what am I getting for my money and what are my allowances on prime cost items that way you can compare apples for apples if person quoting isn't prepared to do this you have to ask yourself why

The most common question is what does it cost per square to build a house or do an extension  and my answer to that is for me to give you an accurate cost on building per square we need to do an site inspection and sit down and find out exactly what you want in house or extension that way I can give a reasonably accurate quote, so don't be fooled by people giving quotes that don't take the time to find out what you want

What makes you the most reliable and trustworthy person for the job?

I pride myself in the fact that if we are contracted to do any sort of work big or small we will always work on your job until it is completed and don't jump from job to job , I have done a lot of work over the years at schools etc  and have all the required working with children checks  etc , we have worked for 35 years in Yarra valley with out have to sauce work out side the area , anyone can say they are reliable and trustworthy , it is important for you to meet your contractor and talk to them face to face before you hire them.

We pride our selfs in listening to what our clients want and go out of our way to make it happen ,if some thing can't be done we will tell you so ,all of our work is done to building regulation, if you don't want that you don't want us

What are the typical things that you need to know before you can provide a quote to a customer?

A site servey , heights ground contures, distances from boundaries etc the type of construction required the type of matireals , site inspection and sit down meeting to determine exactly what the customer require for finishes and appliances etc , without all this information you can't receive an accurate quote

How can a customer save money before you start the work? Please give 3 tips

If the customer have there plans drawn up and get all the engineers comps done get the bal report and get energy star rating requirements and most important is the town planing permits if required as this permit can take from 5 to 12 months and sometimes longer to be issued if all this is done a job could be started with in a month , sorce as mutch information as possible and known what you want that way you can set a budget for furnishings and prim cost items that way every one is quoting on same things , that way competitive quotes

Depending on job normally on  signing a contract a deposit is required then progress payments as job progresses . Some people contract us to do a small amount of work they are invoiced at end of each week and payment is made then

I specialise in heritage style work I do every thing from ground up I also make timber window and doors and build kitchen cupboards and timber joiner, high quality decking  sand balustrades

I have trade qualifications in carpentry and joinery, stair building and cabinet making i received a craftsmanship award and was the top joiner third year at box hill tafe ,I am a registed builder i also spent 4 years as agricautual fitter witch is farm related work pump repairs water reticulation etc
