How did you decide to get into your line of work?

Our MD worked as an driver over an decade ago. He liked the work and decided to open the removals business some months later. Over 10 years have passed, and the business has grown greatly since then - we now have a fleet of 8 trucks of various sizes, and move belongings long distances, as far north as Mackay in QLD to as far south as Geelong and Mallacoota in Victoria.

Where can I see your Google Reviews, to find out if they were happy with their move? How many years of experience they have? Do they use contractors, or do they have their own trucks/staff? How many trucks do they own? Have they ever been successful doing a balcony lift? Are you insured? How do you wrap an item like a couch or a fridge?

What questions do customers commonly ask and how would you answer them?

Q: Customers most often ask me how long the move will take. A: Things that affect the move time include: 1. Access; How long it takes to walk from where your belongings are to our truck. 2. How many Movers have been hired (typically two). 3. How well the belongings are packed/prepared/labelled.  4. The travel time from our depot to your pickup location, then to the drop off location and back to the depot. Note for shared long distance trucks, the other clients' pick-ups and drop-offs are also factors. 5. Any problems the truck encounters - note that as we have a fleet of trucks, we can work around almost any problem in this regard.  Q: What is the size of the truck and will it move our things in a single trip? A: Our skilled sales staff are able to calculate the space your belongings will take, and assign the right truck accordingly.

What are the typical things that you need to know before you can provide a quote to a customer?

1. The list of the items to be moved 2. The access to the premises (via stairs, lift, from the street...) 3. Are the small and loose items well packed in boxes? 4. The date of the move and if there are strict timeslots due to building management etc. 5. If you require any additional services as in the prepack or balcony lifts for example.

How can a customer save money before you start the work? Please give 3 tips

- Advising on the best location to park our truck (and reserve a spot if necessary).  - Making an inventory list of what needs to move so we don't underquote or over quote on fixed price moves. - Packing everything in the right boxes, heavy items and fragile items in the smaller 'book/wine' boxes and the lighter items, such as clothing and blankets in the bigger 'teachest' boxes.

How do you normally charge for your service?

Long Distance moves are normally quoted with a fixed price, with both dedicated truck, and shared truck services being popular.  Local Sydney moves are typically based on an hourly rate plus travel time to/from our truck depot. However, sometimes, we are requested to inspect a property to give a fixed price for large or complex moves.
