My partner and I recently adopted a 11 weeks old Kelpie x Huntaway cross. I've never had a dog before so I wanted some tips and trick to train him properly for him to become well behave and so he can settle in his new family. We met Jade who stayed with us for 2 hours, giving us trick to manage a few problems we had like Jax jumping on very human being while outside for a walk, biting a lot and harder, not walking on leash, and we also thought it was important to crate train him. My puppy seems to be struggling with separation anxiety, to the point I cant even leave the room in the apartment without her screaming for me relentlessly. Oddly enough, she is fully crate trained for night time sleep and daytime naps, but cannot tolerate her crate for alone-time or if we arent in the house. I tried to leave her by herself with a heartbeat Teddy, stuffed toys, blankets, high value treats, a frozen Kong, and enrichment toys, and she screamed, barked, whined, cried, and howled for the full hour I was gone. She was pacing, panting, and had toilet accidents (I have a doggy cam so I could see all this happening). Ive tried slow graded exposures, leaving her in another room for 30 seconds then praising her with high value treats, Ive tried ignoring her, nothing seems to be working or maybe Im doing something wrong. We really need help as its affecting our quality of life and hers, I dont want to psychologically harm her in any way and want her to know shes safe to be alone and we will come back. No matter how much we play with her, socialise, and exercise her, she still exhibits these symptoms when we arent in her line of sight. Hoping you can help us to help her as we are at a loss and want to try and correct this early in life so she isnt suffering as an adult dog.
