Are you an insured business and do you guarantee your work?

Accepted Answer

We are fully insured and guarantee all work to be of a high standard of finish. Decking, retaining walls, fencing, etc. have a five year guarantee. I'll come back and fix it.

How did you decide to get into your line of work?

Gardening runs in the family. All my Ancles and Aunties have a passion for gardening. I also just love working outside and with my hands.

Do you have a favourite customer story you would like to share?

I was asked to fix a fence because the previous person built it incorrectly. It lasted 10 years, mind you, but the problem was expensive to fix. 4 times more if the fence was to be replaced if it fell over. It was a big Merbau screen 3m high by 25m long.  They said i had the job before i'd quoted because they didn't want anyone else after I worked for them one year prior. I worked out the cost based on time/ materials, and after the job was done, i gave them several hundred back as i finished it sooner than expected. They were rapped with the work, especially seeing as i did a few extras as well.  It was great to be trusted with something important and provide Tony and Norma with a quality resolution.

What questions should a customer ask to hire the right service professional?

Accepted Answer

Having clear expectations before and after is very important for both parties. Make sure your questions have been answered and you are confident they will provide what you are looking for.

What questions do customers commonly ask and how would you answer them?

Accepted Answer

What do you think we should plant here?  "Well, if you were thinking a,b and c, then i'd probably go with c because..." or   " Have you thought about this plant that would work well in these conditions?"  Do you do this? "Sure, i can help with that." "Yes, I can paint the pagola." "You would like the fence fixed, sure i fix fences." Often, your professional gardener can do a number of different tasks and jobs.  Just ask.

What makes you the most reliable and trustworthy person for the job?

I turn up on time and provide honest, informative answers to questions, but i don't know everything.   I have good morals that i live by and a realible personality.

Why should a customer hire you over another service provider?

Accepted Answer

I guess if they feel like we were a good fit for each other after meeting in person, then they will just know that i can provide what they are after. Different people look for or want different things, and someone else might be able to provide that service better than me.   Eg bricklaying isn't my strongest

What are the typical things that you need to know before you can provide a quote to a customer?

It's very hard to quote over the phone properly without seeing the job in person. There are always lots of variables.  Non site quotes can be dearer because its hard to charge more after they agree to the price even if it takes us longer than expected.   Photos do help a lot though.

How can a customer save money before you start the work? Please give 3 tips

Accepted Answer

Don't cut trees small/ large down below shoulder hieght if you want me to dig them out. I use that for leverage, and it's takes half the time to dig out, saving you money.  Cutting up trees, digging up bushes, and other green waste and sticking in a big tangled pile makes it very hard for me to sort and take away. Stack piles separately, neatly, and with all branches facing the same way.  It helps if you pick up all your dog poo as most gardeners will probably charge an extra $5-$20 on top of work, especially mowing. No one likes steeping in or mowing over it.

How do you normally charge for your service?

New customers receive quotes usually, then after seeing my how efficient and productively i work, plus getting to know me, they trust when i work for an hourely rate i'll still work as hard and fast.

Is there a particular aspect of your trade or industry that you specialise in?

I am a master of hedging as i'm very fastidious, and i take pride in my work. Also, wipper snipping for the same reasons.   I can prune and cut down most trees up to two storeys high.  I painted houses for a few years and won an award for best 1st year apprentice not just for painting abilities but good work ethics.

I have on job training of 8 years gardening and landscaping. Cert 11 in horticulture. Constantly upskiling and studying questions i don't know the answer to.
