Job Type: Painter
Location: Moonee Ponds, VIC
Our experience with them started out well but unfortunately left us feeling extremely disappointed. We asked them to paint the exterior of our weatherboard Californian bungalow home so it was quite a big job which they seemed really keen to do. They even started the preparation on weekend days which we thought was great as it would mean that the job would be completed more quickly. The positives of our experience were that the painters did a good job on the front and back gables of our house, and they spent a lot of time on preparation. There were a number of issues though, with the biggest being that various areas were not covered with protective drop sheets when painting the house despite being asked to do so on several occasions. This included a hard wood front porch which had only been installed a year earlier, which ended up getting covered in various paint spillages. There were a lot of rain delays during the completion of the job and we felt that the work completed towards the end of the job was rushed as they wanted to move on the new jobs that he had already booked in. Whilst the weather was obviously outside of his control, when it did clear, the team would generally turn up for no more than an hour or two each day. There were small areas that were completely missed and there was paint on areas that shouldn’t have paint, such as glass in the windows, the edging around the front door and the inside floorboards. Each time issues were identified they indicated that they would fix them by the end of the job. On the last day they stained our front porch deck before we could check that the paint had been removed properly. At the very end of the day, he asked us to walk around and check their work so that they could receive final payment. However we were limited in time and could not walk on the porch or get too close to inspect it properly as it was not dry. As I trusted that they did the right thing, I paid the balance owing in full on the last day. I did notice a number of small defects, but thought we could tidy these up ourselves as he was not keen to return because of his commitments to another job starting the following day. Upon closer inspection when I had more time the next day I did notice a large number of issues and in hindsight I should have asked him to come back the following day to do a full inspection before paying him. We could clearly see the paint stains were still on the front porch. I sent them photos and asked if he would come over to remove the paint. At first, he tried to say that it was the varnish and that’s how it looked. Then he tried to say that it was old wood and already stained. I reminded him that the front porch was only built just over a year ago with new wood. Then he said that he stained the front porch for “free” but we didn’t even want him to re-stain it – we just wanted the paint removed. They finally agreed to come over to remove the paint from the decking. However, he cancelled at the last minute and did the same when rescheduling at least a further five times. He did finally return to fix the issue around six weeks later, but clearly didn’t intend to do the job properly and left shortly afterwards without removing the paint stains. He did volunteer to return again to resolve the issue, but followed this up with a series of further excuses and cancellations. We were also disappointed with the way that he and his painters failed to take care of our house while they were painting the exterior. They continuously rinsed their paint brushes on our back lawn even though we asked them to use our laundry sink. This left a big mud patch in one area and a huge dead patch of grass about a metre wide in another area. Overall, we had an unpleasant experience with them and his painters and cannot recommend them.Michelle
