How did you decide to get into your line of work?

The reason The Daily Caulker started was to provide a high standard approach to the caulking and waterproofing industry. This allows us to take on such unique jobs with hopes of expansion into the home building industry.

Do you have a favourite customer story you would like to share?

Accepted Answer

One of our favourite customer stories is completing a job for our client who was under a tight schedule and wanted his whole home caulked the day I had quoted it. We went straight to work and managed to complete the job at 11:55pm with 5 minutes to spare in which during that time the client referred me to his whole family which I got to meet and have now caulked dozens of their homes and to our surprise the owner cooked us an amazing midnight BBQ along side the beachfront view as a wonderful thank you.

What do you like most about your job?

Seeing the end result after caulking an area and the difference between the unfinished product to our clients faces dropping when they ask how silicone can make such a big difference to create a more aesthetically pleasing home.

What questions should a customer ask to hire the right service professional?

All customers should check the service professionals details, to ensure it is a registered business. All social media platforms and reviews, as well as any other relevant information. The products being used must be brought up also and research must be done. This is your pinnacle to a disaster regardless of experience or reviews, as researching the products used will prevent a disaster if certain products are not of high quality or suitable for the area being serviced or worked on.

What questions do customers commonly ask and how would you answer them?

The most commonly asked question is can you send us a quote online without seeing the job based of meterage and photos, we always advise against this as we believe being in person creates a more appropriate scenario for quoting, however is possible but the accuracy is not always 100%. The advantage of being in person compared to photos is we can asses the whole job, provide the best solution and colour selection for the project and importantly have the social interaction with our clients to understand their situations and desired outcome of the job.

What makes you the most reliable and trustworthy person for the job?

I come from a custom home builder background in which the builder I worked for was very attentive to every small detail and always ensured everything was running smoothly. I have a select amount of builders which allows me to work closely with each of them and provide more one on one attention for them and also the clients.

Throughout my years of work in the construction industry, I have become even more passionate about the craft of caulking and waterproofing, and this is what lead me to start my own business. The reason I started The Daily Caulker was in order to provide the appropriate waterproofing solutions to the construction industry that has been lacking in the past. I am not just another caulker or water proofer, but a professional that has the knowledge and answers as to why these applications are vital to the construction process. To have had the opportunity to create a unique process that ensures that our waterproofing comes close to the best in the industry, and that caulking isn't just a fancy finish but another waterproofing barrier, allows us to provide the best package and reassurance to all our clients.

What are the typical things that you need to know before you can provide a quote to a customer?

We need to know location, service area type ( is it a bathroom etc) condition, existing caulk or waterproof membrane that needs removal, new build or renovation and anything else that may be relevant to the description of the job.

How can a customer save money before you start the work? Please give 3 tips

Accepted Answer

Three ways a customer can save money on our services is by: 1. Providing as many details about the job such as location, condition and time frame and photos ( Even if you've tried to caulk and it hasn't turned out well and needs removal) so we can give an accurate quote.  2. The bigger the job and the more constant work the better the value regardless of location. This allows us to create a bulk pricelist that better resembles the builders pricelist that allows us to lower pricing.  3.Having a budget, as we understand everyone's situation by having an idea of pricing or a budget in place allows us to work with our team to create a more affordable solution. For instance if two jobs are in the vicinity but instead of it being done tomorrow waiting an extra day reduces our trvel cost and your final invoice.

We provide a budget entry and work with our customers to fit their budget and provide alternatives and scenarios without affecting our quality or work.

How do you normally charge for your service?

We charge per linear metre for caulking, as well as having set pricing standards for different areas and per square metre for waterproofing. We also have a specialised pricelist for our selected number of builders we work with.

Is there a particular aspect of your trade or industry that you specialise in?

I specialise in Caulking and waterproofing for heritage listed sites, complex high end builds and renovations on all residential and commercial sites.

What experience, skills, qualifications or training do you have to make you the right person for the job?

I have completed the Diploma of Building and Construction and have worked as a Builder's Assistant/OHS Warden for a custom home builder with an eye for quality and safety for two years. My role consisted of caulking and waterproofing interior/exterior wet areas, control joints and floorings, as well as managing and implementing the OHS policy on all sites. I conducted and oversaw various stages of the construction process with the supervision of a builder that has 20+ years of experience with custom home building. I have gained knowledge in the construction process with management work and hands on labouring work from base stage to hand over, especially carpentry - as the builder would work on site and do the carpentry work with us, rather than use sub-contractors for majority of the build. This allowed me to build several frames in the Williamstown area and specialise and understand the process of various works from supervising sub-contractors to framing, lock up, fixing, caulking, water proofing and hand over - all while maintaining steady communication with the builder, sub-contractors, clients and attention to required details.
