Do you have a favourite customer story you would like to share?

It is always difficult to pick your most favourite story, because every experience is different and special.  During covid, one of my brides dad whom was expected that he would have 12 months left, health rapidly took a turn for the worst where he had hours left before passing.  Within a few hours I put together a ceremony, completed all the paperwork, and was at the Hospital ICU where I met my couple, and we all had to wear PPE (Personal Protective Equipment).  The nursing team did an amazing job to decorate the room.  I solemnised the marriage for my couple, helping my bride to realise her wish for her dad to give her away. When he saw his daughter in her wedding dress for this brief moment in time it gave him strength to move beyond his pain and be there for his daughter.   He passed away later that evening.  The following year, early 2022, I performed a renewal of vows ceremony for my couple in front of their family and friends in a park setting, with a special tribute to her dad. It was a much happier Occassion.  In Dec 2022, my bride sent me a message "We both thank you from our heart for everything you have done for us. Your services went above and beyond our expectations and we will forever be truly grateful to you."

What questions should a customer ask to hire the right service professional?

Firstly, you should feel comfortable with talking to your Celebrant, and you should feel that you can express what you imagine for your special day. I would ask if my celebrant uses a professional PA system, can play the entry music, and has a signing table and chairs.  My PA System and separate Music player is a $3,000 investment, it is not a $200 karaoke box.

What questions do customers commonly ask and how would you answer them?

Most customers do not have a clue what questions to ask me.  The first thing I like customers to know, is that under section 42 of the Marriage Act 1961, there is a legal requirement for the Notice of Intended Marriage (NOIM) to be completed and lodged with your Celebrant at least 1 calendar month before the wedding, and it remains valid for 18 months after lodgement.  When we meet, I make this a simple and stress free process by completing the NOIM for you when I visit you at your place. I can then immediately print the NOIM. You sign it, I witness your signatures and accept lodgement. Simple!  I DO NOT make you fill in your own NOIM and have you run around town to find a suitable witness (some of whom would charge for that service). This is not good customer service in my book.  Having customers know the notice requirement, and helping them complete this part of the process in time, stops my couples from falling into the trap of not lodging the notice in time which means that the I can not solemnise the marriage.  Even if a couple decide to use a different Celebrant, at least I know I have given them one piece of valuable information so their wedding can occur as they have planned.

For the past 17 years I have operated to the industry ‘Code of Practice’, and expectations of my couples.  There are many reasons why after 17 years I am still working in this industry, including honesty, reliability, good service & products, trustworthy, friendly, meeting my couples needs.

Why should a customer hire you over another service provider?

Even after 17 years of being a Celebrant, I am always looking to do better and make the process of getting married for my couples to be fun, relaxed and easy process.  My online eLibrary (only one of its type in Australia) is a big part of this process.  Including my vow builder page that I introduce in 2022 which makes it fun an easy to create your own person vows (if you wish).

What are the typical things that you need to know before you can provide a quote to a customer?

With my two packages (a) Intimate Wedding Ceremonies, or (b) Family Wedding Ceremonies, the choice and quotation is very simple and clear.  If you are looking to do the legalities without the Ceremonial part, and guests then my Intimate Wedding Ceremonies is a cost effective options. In fact, it is cheaper than if you got married at the registry office in Perth.  If you are wishing a comfortable, relaxed, simple ceremony WITHOUT all the bells, whistles and fan fair of a formal wedding in front of 150+ guests. Then my Family Wedding Ceremony is the way to go and is suitable for up to 100 guests.

Is there a particular aspect of your trade or industry that you specialise in?

Accepted Answer

I enjoy and specialise in the Family Wedding at a small venue, local park or at home. There is usually between 20 - 100 guests. The style of wedding means that my couples are relaxed (well as relaxed as you can be getting married).  The ceremony generally lasts 15-20 minutes.

What experience, skills, qualifications or training do you have to make you the right person for the job?

I trained as a marriage celebrant in 2004. I became a registered Marriage Celebrant in 2005, and in 2010 when the new 'Cert. IV in Celebrancy' was introduced I completed this training course. I have certificates in Business, Frontline Management and Leadership. The greatest skill I can offer is the ability to 'Listen'.
