Are you an insured business and do you guarantee your work?

McCarthy Building Services are fully insured to provide a quality and guaranteed product. We are about to become registered builders which will allow larger builds to be undertaken. We have public liability insurance which will cover in the case of an accident during the building process.

How did you decide to get into your line of work?

From the later years of high school Chris the director of McCarthy Building Services knew that he wanted to become a carpenter, and follow in his fathers footsteps (an accountant) in running his own business. A love of the outdoors and connecting with knew people drew Chris to carpentry and a few years later McCarthy Building Services was created.

Do you have a favourite customer story you would like to share?

McCarthy Building Services is also on social media and came across a lady on a local noticeboard who was renting a property in croydon and was having trouble with a landlord who would not fix the driveway gate. The gate was not shutting properly and this allowed one of her 3 young boys to wander out onto the road. She put up a post to see if anyone knew of any tradesman that could give her a quote to fix it. Chris contacted her and offered to drop past on the way home from one job and fix it for her. Upon arriving and meeting maxine and her 3 boys, we realised that it was a very simple job that took 20 mins to fix. Upon completion and seeing the happiness on her face that her boys were safe again we mentioned that we wouldn't be charging her for the job. The happiness and relief on this young single mums face was enough. Now we aren't saying we offer jobs for free, but we aim to see a smile on our clients face on every job!

McCarthy Building Services is a small business, therefor we make our living from working hard and providing a quality product that hopefully is then recommended on, providing the company with future work. We are passionate about our work and work hard to keep that passion going.

Why should a customer hire you over another service provider?

We aim to provide not only a quality product, but from first contact we want the customer to experience a professional building company and feel relaxed throughout the whole process.

How can a customer save money before you start the work? Please give 3 tips

Accepted Answer

1. Before you have somebody come to quote your job, have written down everything you want done. This removes any re-quoting that may occur by a part of the job not being discussed.  2. Some jobs may involve a site clean up to allow for construction to proceed, clients can undertake this which will remove the cost from the quote, in turn saving them money.  3. Do as much investigation as you can regarding design, for example if you are doing a bathroom renovation - provide design of tiles, frameless of a framed shower, built in bath or free standing… all of these details allow a builder to give a more accurate quote. This may not save money first up, but will assure there are no variations in the end.

At McCarthy Building Services we admit to not being the cheapest builders out there, but we can guarantee that when we leave the job, it will be to a very high quality, the site will be left as it was when we arrived and the client will have no means to be upset with the work carried out. We try to go beyond the cheaper competitors by offering a fantastic service to make the process as easy on the client as possible. By no means are we ripping the client off or over charging, but with everything including the trades we use, we know that we get a great product by spending that little extra.

How do you normally charge for your service?

We prefer to have a site visit and meet face to face, that way allowing us to discuss the proposed work in person, which in turn rules out any mistakes in the quoting process.

Is there a particular aspect of your trade or industry that you specialise in?

All of our employees specialise as qualified carpenters. Having all completed apprenticeships under quality builders then continuing there trade under McCarthy Building Services. The apprentices are now receiving the same quality training that will provide you with a professional service.

What experience, skills, qualifications or training do you have to make you the right person for the job?

Accepted Answer

We have two fully qualified carpenters both with 12+ years of experience. Chris who is the director of the company has also completed many personal courses to assist in customer service and quality running of the company. Both of our fully qualified carpenters have completed a certificate 4 in building construction allowing them not only to have great trade skills, but also to have a complete understanding of the running of a construction business.
