Are you an insured business and do you guarantee your work?

As a registered architect I am required to maintain professional indemnity insurance. Currency of this insurance needs to be produced annually to the architects registration board.

How did you decide to get into your line of work?

While working in another field I was designing and building houses for myself. I enjoyed the process so much I decided to study architecture.

Do you have a favourite customer story you would like to share?

I recently accepted an invitation for dinner in the home of a client, who had moved in to the completed house I had designed for them. I felt that the project was a success when he told me that it was not until they had moved into their new home that he really appreciated what effect good design can have on your life.

What do you like most about your job?

I most enjoy working with and getting to know people, and producing something that will enhance their everyday lives. I enjoy the creative aspect of design, and the practical aspect of the construction process.

We are a client-centred practice, with our motivation being the wellbeing and happiness of our clients. We are committed to producing buildings that are energy efficient and environmentally sustainable.

What are the typical things that you need to know before you can provide a quote to a customer?

The quote is dependent on the scope of services required. Normally in the first meeting we will discuss the process of producing a building project. We can then decide what services are required so that an appropriate fee can be quoted.

1. Produce an extensive list of your requirements for your project 2. Collate images from magazines etc which shows your tastes 3. Do some research into contemporary residential architecture

The initial consultation where we meet to discuss your project and see how we might work collaboratively to achieve your project is free of charge. This meeting normally takes place on the site of your project.

How do you normally charge for your service?

Architectural fees can be charged in various ways, and I normally discuss the most appropriate basis for my fee with each client as each project is different. Fees can be determined as a percentage of the construction cost, or on an hourly rate up to an estimated maximum.

While I have a varied range of experience including commercial, educational, institutional, hospitality and industrial projects, I specialise in residential architecture.

I am a registered architect (since 2003) and also have experience in residential construction. I have worked both in sole practice and also in large national architectural firms.
