I am insured through MGA insurance brokers,for $5,000,000 combined general liability. I guarantee my work for three years,and in my time i have had no problems with that.

How did you decide to get into your line of work?

After travelling around  and seeing bits of Australia i came back to Melbourne and settled down and started to work with a friend of mine who was and still is in the painting game i was with him for nine years and in between furthering my skills at MPA doing courses in all aspects of painting.

Do you have a favourite customer story you would like to share?

I remember painting the interior of a family home in East Keilor both husband and wife were quite friendly and we got along great, i was there for 4 days and on the last i was cleaning up loading my van up and got talking to the husband about cars etc, he was telling me that hes a retired motor mechanic,anyway we got talking about car accidents and he mentioned that his daughter was involved in one just recently and told me the make of car and his daughters name,it turns out that my wife works with his daughter in Maidstone!

What do you like most about your job?

I love all aspects of my job even the preparation!As i said before i like to challenge myself and i take great pride in repainting say  an old weatherboard home and watching it come together,i always take before and after photos to show clients when im finished.

Generally you would think they would ask for the tradepersons experience and knowledge of the work that needs to be carried out and weather they are qualified or not.

Do you ever get sick of painting! My response is no i Love it i never get sick or bored with painting each new job is a challange and im always up for it.

I pride myself on be promt and open and honest clients trust me and many times leave me to paint the interior of there home whilst they go on holidays, its good to be reliable and dependable in my line of work.

I pride myself on being punctual efficent and reliable if i say i will be there at a certain time i make sure that i am,should i get held up i will always ring the client and let them know the situation.

The size of the job what colours they are choosing weather it is a dark base or light base does make a siginificant differnce in setting out a quotation and what sort of time frame.

How can a customer save money before you start the work? Please give 3 tips

Firstly with painting especially interior it is always appreciated by me if the client or client;'s can help to remove or store furniture it makes the job so much easier,also another tip would be if wallpaper is needed to be removed the client is quite capable to remove that,and thirdly if im painting outside vegetation nearly always has to be trimmed back so if the client can do that fantastic.

I guess a pension discount of 10% it is a bit difficult with painting in regards to making offers if i am asked to do a little extra i generally dont mind and i dont charge for those sort of things.

I like to be competitive and depending on the situation i can sometimes reflect that in my quotation,i like to be able to give the client a firm time frame for work to be carried out and quote accordingly.

I normally charge an hourly rate which is quite common, but it sometimes  depends  on the size of the job if it is a small job well i then quote on an hourly rate.

Not really with painting being a finishing trade you have to specialise in every facet of the work be it in preparation or finishing coats everything has to be spot on.

I have been in the painting industry for 20 years and i continue to learn and improve my skills as i go along,i have qualifications in painting and decorating level 3.
