We have public liability insurance ($20000000). We are QBCC licensed. We are Dulux accredited. We perform all work to Dulux specifications in order for clients to receive the full Dulux product warranty's.

How did you decide to get into your line of work?

Fell into it as a 16 year old kid who didn't even know what an apprenticeship was. 30 years later still making the most of it.

Not a customer but an apprentice story. I Had interviewed 2 young lads that presented well but not much spark. I Thought my day had just turned for the worst when a Young kid turned up at interview with died pink and blue hair and a rather nasty black eye. By the end of the interview I couldn't help but like the kid. I thought bugger it ill give him a go. Was quite a few ups and downs along the journey with Daniel to say the least but at the end of the day He finished his apprenticeship. It has been a while since I spoke with Daniel as he lives in Melbourne. However when we last spoke he had his own company with about a dozen guys working for him travelling the country painting Coles stores. Goes to show you shouldn't judge someone by how they look but you should trust your instincts.

What do you like most about your job?

Seeing a finished product. While sometimes a job can be a grind it is always great to sit back on completion and have a look at the difference you were able to make to the property. What questions should a customer ask to hire the right service professional?

Ask if the painter has any long term clients. Ask how long the painter has been operating. Ask for referees.

What questions do customers commonly ask and how would you answer them?

What paints do you use and how many coats of paint; Dulux premium grade only. 2 coats on repaint and possibly 3.  How long will it take; 2 bedroom apartment 2-3 days on average. How much; Well obviously we need to assess each job as it presents. But we make sure the client is fully aware of all the steps we need to take in order for them to understand just how and why we have quoted that price.

Our focus is on a quality finish at competitive pricing. We know that by cutting corners or using inferior products our customers will not be happy in the long run. We scope all our work to get the best and longest lasting results for our customers.

What are the typical things that you need to know before you can provide a quote to a customer?

Who is the customer. Are they owner occupiers? are they landlords? are they business owners? We need to know what the reason is for the work. Have their been any issues with the property in the past in relation to things such as water damage, poor quality paints being used prior, and the quality or lack their of the substrate. Time frame. How quick does the job need to be done. If a business do you need to maintain access for customers, does the client have a special occasion coming up they absolutely have to have done by a specific date. Or can we only get access at certain times.

How can a customer save money before you start the work? Please give 3 tips

Wash down what you need painted prior to painting. We know it is not a fun job but this is always a great way to save. You may also find that if you do wash down an area it can come up quite well and may not even need painting! Give us a clear run. Why we understand furniture etc can be difficult to move and handle, if you are able to, have a clear work space for our painters this is a great way to get a discount. The more the merrier. If we have less to do it will cost more. If you need a painter to come out and paint 2 doors you could get 3 done for the same price. Remember a lot of the time cost is associated with set up and clean up. Make the most of having workers their.

If you are a body corp manager we would love to hear from you. We can give you a set of rates for apartment repaints that you can send to your owners and get some forward planning in place. We can tailor to your needs with prices for full internals or just for walls and trim only which is a common practise. We can also handle full external complex repaints depending on your requirements.

What makes your pricing competitive?

Our quality finish makes us extremely competitive. We price for the best longest term outcome for our clients as a standard pricing structure. We believe it is very important to look at the long term cost for clients. Their is no point in paying 10, 20 or 30% less for a job if it is not done right or has only half the life expectancy of what we provide. What is also critical to understand is that their are some finishes that will not last as long in our tropical environment so should be treated as an ongoing maintenance issue rather than a set and forget item.

How do you normally charge for your service?

We make sure our clients are fully aware of all costs up front prior to any work commencing. We invoice on completion of job on a COD basis. We can also arrange different payment terms for clients depending on circumstances.

Is there a particular aspect of your trade or industry that you specialise in?

We do a lot of body corp and commercial work. We specialise in painting top quality apartment complexes where we know the importance of having a highly professional visible presence when on site. We know that it is very time critical in this area as down time for maintenance costs our clients money when their apartments are off line for maintenance.  We also do quite a bit of heat reflective roof coatings and roof refurbishments, Which are great for both maintaining the value of the property but also save the client in cooling costs.

What experience, skills, qualifications or training do you have to make you the right person for the job?

As the owner and director of the company I have over 30 years experience in the painting industry. We as a company have been operating in this region for 13 years and know what it takes to provide a lasting finish in the challenging environment of North Queensland. We are able to provide many different types of paint finishes from heat reflective roof coatings to internal intricate decorative finishes. We are also a Dulux accredited painter that has access to all the technical expertise and up to date industry information that any painter would need.
