Are you an insured business and do you guarantee your work?

I have professional indemnity and public liability insurance but most importantly, I abide strictly by the Code of Conduct as set out by the Marriage Act of 1961.

How did you decide to get into your line of work?

Being a marriage celebrant isn't for everyone. I was always interested in becoming a celebrant but when I attended a wedding once where I was talking to someone I didn't know was a celebrant and they told me I'd make a great wedding celebrant, I decided to follow my dream and I have.  I love it

Do you have a favourite customer story you would like to share?

I have so many...  a couple though: the groom who didn't want to say a vow because he was too shy, but finally felt confident with me & wrote his own which brought his bride to tears. Another groom who again was too shy but wrote his own vow with my help (well, support, he did it all without realising he was doing it), then memorised it and didn't need any promting on THE day.  I even shed a tear with that one. All my ceremonies were great and fun and I loved doing them all.

What do you like most about your job?

I love seeing my couples happy on their wedding day, and totally satisified with their wedding ceremony. I can't do a re run and patch the job like a painter can. I have to get it right every time on time. And I do.  I love seeing people smiling at times during the ceremony when the wording of the ceremony is obviously from the couple's hearts and is just what their friend or relative would say. That is job satisfaction.

What questions should a customer ask to hire the right service professional?

A couple getting married MUST make sure that the celebrant they pick will be there for them during the total process. They need to be able to make it THEIR day, not the celebrants day. They should never accept a celebrant that has pre written ceremonies and they can't change them. Their celebrant should be like a doctor: totally dependable and confidential and work for them

What questions do customers commonly ask and how would you answer them?

Most common question: how much do you charge? Well, that depends on what you want and where you want it for your wedding day.  Being the celebrant for someone's wedding day isn't like painting a house - it has to be done on time, to the client's wishes and when the client wants it. You can't put it off just because it's raining!

What makes you the most reliable and trustworthy person for the job?

Every time someone approaches me about a job I ask myself:  Am I free on this day or do I already have a job.  I NEVER accept two jobs because I don't want to be rushed through a ceremony.  When I accept the booking, I know I will be able to communicate well with the couple, turn their ideas into their perfect ceremony and give them a day to remember.

Why should a customer hire you over another service provider?

This is a personal decision. I am professional. I never give promises I can't keep. I have a lot of resources that helps take the stress out of writing the perfect ceremony. I arrive about 45 minutes before the ceremony to ensure everything is just great. It's the little touches.  All celebrants have to do the legal paper work.  I am professional, and there to do what my couples want, not what I want.

What are the typical things that you need to know before you can provide a quote to a customer?

There are several things:  1.  When is the ceremony.  I won't quote a ceremony if I know I am already booked on the day. When I'm approached by someone without a day, I can't quote.  2.  Where is the location of the ceremony?  If I agree to do one in the Clare Valley, I'd need to charge a little extra for extra petrol.  3.  How many people are you inviting and is this an open air ceremony?  If you invite over 60 or it's going to be in a garden or park, you will need a PA even if you don't know it. People want to hear what is going on, they don't want to stand for 20 minutes and hear nothing..

What makes your pricing competitive?

I don't make a profit from my work. I have a job that pays my bills, celebrancy is a joy to me. I do one job per weekend, so my price reflects enough to help cover my advertising costs, the costs of being a member of two celbrants groups, my registration with the Attorney General in Canberra, printing & stationery, and a bit of my phone & travel expenses. Others charge more and perform more jobs because they need to.  I don't.

How do you normally charge for your service?

No two weddings are the same. I don't charge by the hour, no celebrant would. Celebrants charge by the job.  For a job that is all the preparation, the performing of the ceremony and provision of chairs and table for use by the couple when signing the certificates my charge is $415. Should there be extra travel or the need to use my PA system, the charge increases slightly

What experience, skills, qualifications or training do you have to make you the right person for the job?

I was appointed as a marriage celebrant in 2008, and since then I have done many services from Adelaide to Gawler.  I have helped many couples create their perfect ceremony and then have their perfect wedding ceremony on their special day.  I am registered as a marriage celebrant with the Attoryney General in Canberra.
