How did you decide to get into your line of work?

I personally spent 30 years of my life in professional banking and finance. I had always dabbled in web design since the early days and love the buzz and creativity of creating every new project. My partners all have their own story to tell but I personally love what I do, I love the people I work with and I love igniting and unlocking my flair and imagination on every new web design project.

Do you have a favourite customer story you would like to share?

The best warm and fuzzy I can think of was when a friend of mine was looking to create a unique social network for people with disabilities and people affected by people with disabilities. I loved the niche and spent many months researching to eventually create access connect a thriving social network aimed at the disabled community.

Every day is different, every day is unique and special and every day is challenging. These days web design is not just about creating web pages and putting them out there on the world wide web it is about getting web audiences to engage, to connect, to interact, to learn and to act. I believe personally that if a prospective client doesn't have questions they really haven't thought everything through yet. For us as web designers often hear things like what have you done before? Can we talk to any of your clients personally? How much do you charge? Is your price negotiable? What will I get for my money? Why should I use you over some other web design firm? Do you guarantee your work? A prospective customer must have a good rapport with their service professional and be prepared to work with them or help us to help you!

We generally give all of our prospective clients a questionnaire to complete before accepting their project. This helps us to analyse and assess their individual needs. In that questionnaire we ask about such things as the background of the business, their viewing audience, their competitors, special needs and functionality, size of project, the customers time frames, budget for the project, look, feel, layout and scope of the project among other things.

Tip 1: It is helpful to us if the client already has an impression in their own mind of the look, feel, design and layout of their web design project. Tip 2: A client can save money by providing some if not all of their content, artwork, branding and logos for the project. Tip 3: It always helps us at Dinkum Web Design if a client has a budget for their project in mind as well as the functionality they require for their web design project.

Being Dinkum is all about being Fair. We take great pains to understand, assess and analyse our clients business website needs and create  a plan, package and price to suit each and every business. Generally we work on the basis of 50% of the total cost up front and the balance or success fee on final implementation, acceptance and launch of the new web project.
