How did you decide to get into your line of work?

I always wanted to work with animals I just didn't know what. I applied for a job at a pet shop who also did grooming and they offered to train me. I accepted and found my passion!!

Do you have a favourite customer story you would like to share?

I love when people go to the cafe after their dogs have been groomed and get complimented on how beautiful they look and the owner just has to txt me and tell me :) and then receiving a new referral is just the icing on the cake!

What do you like most about your job?

I love animals and take pride in making you pooch look and feel fresh. There's nothing better then a dirty dog coming in and a wagging clean tail going out!

What questions do customers commonly ask and how would you answer them?

Most common question is how long does it take. Grooming for a small dog can take generally 1 hours but can be up to a few hours depending on the dog and the clipping style.

Why should a customer hire you over another service provider?

Salons can be very stressful and expensive. I have a relaxed home salon am much cheaper then salons as I have no employees to pay and I only do one dog at a time and can take my time as it's not a production line like in busy salons.

What are the typical things that you need to know before you can provide a quote to a customer?

Most prices are standard and mostly depends on the size of the dog. Other price factors can include matted coats, or bad behaviours.

What makes your pricing competitive?

As I am a home business I am able to lower my prices making it more affordable. I also believe that some owners delay times between grooms as the cost in some salons is almost double my price. I would rather the dogs come more often and pay less as I care more about the wellbeing of the dogs.

How do you normally charge for your service?

Currently payments are cash only.  I would love to have an effort machine but currently as I am just a small home business I can only take cash payments, I hope this is not an inconvenience to anyone.

Is there a particular aspect of your trade or industry that you specialise in?

I have been trained to do all breed types. I take pride in being very diverse in all clips even doing the occasional Mohawk!!!! But my absolute favourite breeds to clip are poodles.

What experience, skills, qualifications or training do you have to make you the right person for the job?

I have 6+ years experience.  I was trained by someone with 10 + years experience  I have worked in a few salons, doggie day cares and a vet.  I learnt a lot at the vets about easy little things to look for with health that an owner might miss and can confidently tell owners about it.
