I initially went into study as I had no idea what tax actually was, all I knew is that it was important - so I threw myself in the deep end and studied Accounting. From there I found myself most interested in Management Accounting as I felt this area could help people the most, During one of my first jobs I realised small-medium sized businesses don't have access to CFO services as traditionally you had to hire a CFO FT which was too expensive. However this is the group that potentially needs them the most! So I made it my goal to undertake further training and make myself available and affordable to them by becoming a bookkeeper and virtual CFO.

What questions should a customer ask to hire the right service professional?

Are you a BAS Agent? - BAS Agent registration is required to be able to lodge your BAS and Payroll on your behalf and requires a certain quality of work to maintain the registration. Ensuring you have a BAS Agent will give you peace of mind in the quality of work.  What are your qualifications? This question is redundant if they are a BAS Agent as qualifications are required to achieve it   How many years of experience do you have? Experience means a lot in this industry and can make a big difference in your accountant fees each year. If your accountant has to re-do everything, you can expect higher accounting fees, whereas a good, clean job will reduce the workload on your accountant and enable them to save you in tax fees much more effectively.  Ensure you feel comfortable to speak to your bookkeeper, it is the start of a long term relationship so you shouldn't feel intimidated at all by them.

1. Ensure your books are up to date so there is no catch-up work to be completed 2. Stop using your business bank account for personal expenses - get into the habit of transferring to your personal account once a week instead 3. Ensure all accounts on your Balance Sheet are reconciled - this is not limited to bank accounts
