I maintain Professional Indemnity Insurance as all registered architects are required to do. To use the term 'architect' it is essential that you have completed and maintain your architects registration.

I always wanted to be an architect, but had several other careers before I went to study and then graduate with a degree in architecture.

Families that come to me and have been crammed into their small houses and end up with livable, light well-designed house that connect to their gardens.

I get to take lines and squiggles on tracing paper and turn them into 3D buildings. Architecture can change peoples lives through their designs.

Check that they have completed similar scaled projects to yours. Check their previous work and references. Check the way that they communicate with you, ie. speak to you on the phone etc.

What are your fee structure and what can I expect in costs?  If the client anticipates these costs, then it doesn't come as a surprise later, so it helps to ask the question and get a detailed response from the architect of these potential scenarios.

I am more than happy for new clients to speak to my former clients as a reference. My work speaks for itself. Clients have entrusted me with their savings to complete their dream homes/renovations

First thing is to chat over the phone and arrange an obligation free site visit.  You need to have a brief about what exactly you are needing. Architects cant quote over the phone. A site visit is essential.

Write a concise brief as in, what are the major things we would like to achieve. Buy lots of magazines and look at lots of websites and collate your favourite images and styles.  Think carefully about your Budget, exactly how much you can afford to spend.

What makes your pricing competitive?

Design isn't a competition, we dont like to compete against other firms for the cheapest price.  Architects are not Draftpersons. Each job requires the same amount of effort.

How do you normally charge for your service?

Each Project is different. Architects traditionally charge by using a percentage of your overall costs. Sometimes for smaller projects we use a fixed fee sometimes we charge an hourly rate. Face to Face meetings are free of course, because we love to meet you with you and discuss your project.
