I am insured.The guarantee I give you,Is   You will see your dogs issues improve while I am there.And you will learn many things about dog psychology that other people cannot teach you.Most people can then take over and go on with the training.However some clients cannot.For instance .If a client with children, has a 70kg  aggressive dog and they weigh 50kg.They cannot keep their children safe.Which is why I always insist on a phone call first.If I cannot help.I am not going to take peoples money.

How did you decide to get into your line of work?

my family had put up with me for more than thirty years moaning about every dog trainer that came on TV One day,I was yet again watching a dog trainer on TV and moaning".Why is this man on TV .he knows nothing about dog behaviour".When my son said.Why dont you stop moaning about it ,and go out and train other people's dogs yourself.So I did.

I have lots of stories But here are two from different ends .Fear and aggression The first one is from several years ago when I had only just started helping the public.It was about my fifth job I had been to.Names are not real.I gave a free consultation to a groomer Friend for one of her clients.for christmas She gave It to a family who lived up the road from her. They had an American Bulldog come Pitbull that was 12 months old.For 8 months he hadn't left the house because he freaked out every time he got to the gate in fear.He was terrified of the outside world Susan,the 17 year old owner could not hold him because he was to powerful.Dad was the only one who could hold him but struggled.They had paid for help from a trainer who told them never to let Bully(the dog)Get stressed .Feed him treats and lots of praise,but do not let him get to that stress threshold.They had done this for 8 months and he was worse than when they started and a lot stronger.He was also starting to get very aggressive to anyone he could see through the back fence. If you have stuck with me so far.You will know ,I confront and deal with an issue.I took Bully And Susan for a walk.I spent about three and a half hours with susan and Bully teaching them what to do.From then on susan took Bully for a walk everyday.Four weeks later the update was,They were happily going for walks and had joined the local obedience club Where they were having a great time.I got paid a box of chocolates for that job.It still makes me feel really good ,Thinking,I was responsible for providing the knowledge to give that dog a life  The next story is. A husband and wife rang up with a dog aggressive staffy they had got from the RSPCA 3 weeks earlier They had a son coming down for Christmas with their new grandchild they had never seen.The son and wife ,also had a 4 year old Staffy they were bringing down with them.This Staffy had a wonderful friendly temperament.Tom and Jill rang the RSPCA behaviourist for advice.She told them to,Take Bella for a walk.and if she sees a dog and starts getting aggressive.Stop,turn around and walk the other way,When she is calm.give her a treat.Dont ever let her get into a highly aggressive state.This was a bit hard,As Bella went completely bonkers at the first sign of a dog.After 3 weeks they rang back the RSPCA behaviourist for more advice as nothing had changed.She was  curt with them and told them, if Bella was too aggressive for them,  to bring her back.By this time they had fell in love with Bella.They asked what would happen to her if they did give her back.And were told,"We will assess her and go from there"What will happen if you find that she is aggressive.Will you kill her.  Lots of talk,but the Behaviorist finally admitted they would Thats when I got the call.I spent 4hours with them .Some of the time confronting the issue.Then had a return visit to work some more with them.. Four weeks after I first saw Bella .The son wife grandson and dog arrived  I was there to introduce the dogs.Bella immediately tried to attack the other staffy..After an hour of work (plus the work ,leading up to this moment} I let them off in the garden with Bella Muzzled.Bella attacked the other dog and was corrected Straight away.They were let loose again.Then we had the pleasure of watching Bella slowly come around and trust the other dog sniffing her( The sons dog was another bitch,and that is far harder for a bitch to except as a friend)Then the tail started going with the body language saying ,lets play.  Off they went charging around the garden playing .Two Staffies totally suited with each other playing roughhouse.   Bella had a couple of moments when she hesitated.Because she was not used to play and trusting other dogs.But then got straight back into the play.Four days later,They sent me a picture on Christmas day of the dogs and grandchild all happily together.Its hard to beat the feeling i had watching Bella playing for the first time.And I got paid for It.

What do you like most about your job?

The feeling of helping someone and their dog.The joy of giving a dog a worthwhile life cannot be brought.It doesn't matter how rich someone is.They cannot bye the joy I feel ,of watching a dog play with another dog for the first time in its life.If Im honest. Having people say nice things about me ,makes me feel good too. The downside is,Sometimes I cannot help some people,And that can be heartbreaking.Especially when there are children involved that love their dog.

Can you teach an older dog,Answer-Of course. What should I feed my Puppy.Answer-Its to detailed to write here Do you use a shock collar.Answer-No Are you a positive only trainer.Answer-No,That is the franchises that have learnt scientific training from collages.I deal with issues,Because diverting from them does not stop the issues reappearing Do I hit dogs.Answer-No Do I use treats.Answer-Sometimes,At the right time.My dogs get treats everyday for fun.,..

I dont know the other trainers.So I don't know If I am the most reliable and trustworthy person for the job.I can only speak for myself.And state that I am reliable and trustwothy

Why should a customer hire you over another service provider?

Accepted Answer

Because I have done It.I don't teach sit ,roll over,lay down ect.If that is what you need.Any of the treat only trainers can teach you.I teach good behavior. Dont run out of the door.Be calm and well behaved,ect. I've spent over forty years keeping packs of dogs together,Studying how they communicate with each other and us.Without knowing their needs .It will always be a struggle to get what we want.

What they need in the way of training,Ie Is it Puppy training,Or is there a issue with an older dog or dogs.What is that issue and what is the breed of dog.Where are they based.

I give a fixed price and will not try to sell my clients anything..My price is normally less than other dog trainers,because I don't pay for franchize rights.I have more training than a vat.But charge a lot less

How do you normally charge for your service?

I charge a fixed price,depending on how far from my home the clients are. I cannot charge by the hour,as all cliant,dogs and their home enviument are differant.To really help people and their dogs,I cannot be looking at the clock.If something takes a long time,so be it.I cannot stop and say "times up",Before i'm finished. Consultations,normally last from 3 to 4 hours.But there is no time limit.If it takes longer.It takes longer. Young Puppy training doesn't take so long and is at a cheaper price. Price range is about $100 to $250 total for a consultation

Personal training at peoples homes.Teaching dog behavior in all breeds and ages.Most people don't want a circus dog.They want a easy going loveable dog to take out and cuddle.A companion ,that doesn't try to bite them or the children.One that their friends comment on with."your dog is so well behaved.How on earth do you get it to behave so well" .  When people say that,it makes owners feel proud of their dog. Thats what I teach. If you want a dog to do tricks,All the franchises, using treats only training are better qualified to teach you that.Because thats what they learn in collage. I specialise In behaviour.

What experience, skills, qualifications or training do you have to make you the right person for the job?

I learnt the behaviour of dogs from thousands of dogs .Hundreds of books and videos.And Many people,over the years. Some good some bad.During fifty years of training dogs ,I have tried every method. Thats why I know meeting the dogs needs as well as the owners is the only way to get harmony I do teach differently from the other trainers .Forty years ago I started keeping packs of dogs together all the time.Not in separate kennels and then brought out under supervision.Thats when I started learning Sit and Lay Down ,Was not enough to get a well behaved dog.Dogs talk to each other all the time.Understanding that helps our relationship with them.It is not mystic magic.But your have to learn how they are communicating ,So we can teach them what we want
