It's always about the music & the people!  Mind you having amazing equipment to play with at home is not a bad side benefit either.

Do you have a favourite customer story you would like to share?

I did a huge lavish wedding on a property in Portsea which started around 6pm.  People were still partying at 5am which was huge for what had been a long day for all.  The father of the groom was probably in his late fifties so you can imagine my surprise when he took to the podium and danced to some very cool house music tracks as late as 5am and then insisted on playing some Pink Floyd and other cool tracks on acoustic guitars as a duet with the groom at 5.30 am until I finished loading out my gear an hour later.  That was when I realised I had definitely made their day lol!  Priceless!

Music is an enormous passion and a big driver for me working in the industry but getting everyone into 'party mode' is a huge motivator too.

What questions should a customer ask to hire the right service professional?

Ask details to ascertain how long he/she has worked in the industry and what types of venues he/she has worked in.   Is the person on the end of the phone the Dj that will do the function?  If you can't speak directly to the actual Dj about the job prior to paying a deposit and get a feel for the persons attitude, call another company/Dj!  Does the person have a good depth of knowledge of the music genre or period (ie 70's or 80's) or is going to play off your request list?  A good Dj will read the room and people response, not rely on requests or song lists to get & keep the party on the floor!

My reputation is everything to me.  My 20 years of experience ensures you will get the right music for your event.  I have played at as huge variety of venues other than my nine year residency in St Kilda where I played up to four nights a week.  You don't get to stick around in one club through several ownership changes without being punctual, dependable & Proffessional.

What are the typical things that you need to know before you can provide a quote to a customer?

Accepted Answer

Venue location, size of the room and crowd, set up times (effected by access to the building and the amount of equipment you need for your function.   Any special needs such as video & screen requirements.  Nice to know if the venue allows the use of 'smoke machines' or fog machines to augment the lighting.  No additional charge but may effect the type of lighting suitable for the event.

How can a customer save money before you start the work? Please give 3 tips

Ensure you pick a venue with parking available/provided.  Try to choose a venue which is on the ground floor with good access.  (Time is money so most Dj's will charge extra for busy city venues with limited access and long load in times, especially where several floors of stairs or a lift is involved)

We don't stove to be the cheapest.  We strive to be the best value given the high quality of our equipment and highly experienced DJ.  For example, there is no point spending tens of thousands on your wedding and then letting the kid next door DJ it with no event experience and just hope for the best.  If you are investing money in a party or event, get the right people with experience & the right gear.   If you want a cheap backyard feel, hire a duke box!
